Guanajuato, Gto., February 6, 2019.- At the Belén venue of the University of Guanajuato (UG) the presentation of the book "Actividad Económica de los Otero una familia minera guanajuateña (1700-1950), was carried out, by the author Salvador Covarrubias Alcocer, academic of the Department of Architecture.
The event was attended by the Director of Infrastructure and University Services, Eloy Juárez Sandoval, representing the President of UG, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino; in his speech he highlighted the extraordinary expository capability of Covarrubias, as well as the excellent work of historical recovery made by the author with his research.
The rector of the Guanajuato Campus, Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendon Huerta Barrera, said that "Actividad Económica de los Otero" is a truly valuable work, deep, written with simplicity and in a familiar tone that reveals the great knowledge of the author about the city.
In his speech the author thanked the support for the publication of this text, which is the result of an investigation and that contributes to revaluing the legacy of the Otero family to Guanajuato, of which Salvador Covarrubias is a descendant.
In the comments to the work, Dr. Dolores Elena Álvarez Gasca, professor of the Department of Architecture, said that the book offers valuable information on how the members of the Otero family through the mining created jobs, wealth, buildings and they contributed substantially to the shaping of the city of Guanajuato.
She explained that the book contains sections that address the geographical environment, the way of life of the inhabitants; a brief history of mining, the life of the Otero family in Guanajuato, among other topics.
The Director of the Department of Architecture, José Moya Santiago, read the comments of Dr. Maria Guevara Sanginés, who was unable to attend the event. In her message he recalled that the book was published through the Heritage Class, headed by Dr. Teresita Rendon Huerta, so she celebrated this initiative.
The welcome message was given by the Director of the Division of Architecture, Art and Design (DAAD), Dr. Francisco Javier Hernández Compean, who stressed that Salvador Covarrubias is a distinguished scholar that has been an example for many generations and whose work allows to reassess the urban landscape of the city of Guanajuato.
The presentation took place in the auditorium "El Aljibe", where university authorities, representatives of the university community and the general public gathered.
