Guanajuato, Gto., February 6, 2019.- The University of Guanajuato (UG) presented results of the English Language Proficiency project: A key to enhancing industrial recruitment and mobility in central Mexico, which aims to promote the development of English language skills.

The work began with an informative session in which the Academic Secretary of the institution, Dr. Sergio Antonio Silva Muñoz, who attended as representative of the President, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, stressed that the UG seeks that the community learns a second language, not only because it is a fundamental tool to get a job, but because there are intercultural processes that require efficient communication.

He recalled that in recent years have been installed in the state hundreds of foreign companies that demand graduates who dominate the English language, but also the University of Guanajuato is immersed in a process of internationalization, so that the institution is opening to new models for teaching and learning a second language.

Therefore, he thanked the support of the British Council and the University of Reading for the project English language proficiency: A key to enhancing industrial recruitment and mobility in central Mexico.

Previously, the academic secretary of the Guanajuato Campus, Dr. Claudia Gutiérrez Padilla, agreed that learning foreign languages is an inescapable necessity in the current context, so she celebrated the project that has been overseen by the Department of Languages of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities.

For her part, the coordinator of the Master in linguistics applied to the teaching of English, Dra. Irasema Mora Pablo, and the coordinator of the degree in the teaching of English, Dr. Edgar Emmanuell García Ponce, recalled the background and results of the project that was funded by the British Council.

Dr. César Federico Macías Cervantes, Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, gave a welcome message to the event where representatives of the University of Guanajuato and the University of Reading were gathered.

It is important to mention that in addition to the briefing, on February 7th and 8th, updating workshops will be held with teachers and students of the UG.
