Guanajuato, Gto., February 6, 2019.- Evangelina Hernández Barrón, professor at the Division of Architecture, Art and Design (DAAD) of Campus Guanajuato of the University of Guanajuato (UG) received a stimulus from the Program of Promotion for Cultural Projects and Co-investments of the National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA).

The program encourages the initiative of creators, interpreters, researchers, managers, promoters, educators, curators, groups, among others, for the realization of artistic and cultural projects; this time, also a PhD student in Arts, presented the proposal of the "International Festival of Street Dance".

Prof. Hernández Barrón, today works at the Department of Scenic Arts at the DAAD, where she performs in teaching, research and extension and liaison. She graduated from the bachelor's degree in industrial relationships and a master's degree in organizational development, both educational programs at DCEA, in addition of having concluded her PhD studies in arts at the DAAD.

In an interview, she mentioned that as a child she entered the program as a classic ballerina at the Academy of Classical Dance of the Center of Formation and Professional Initiation for Dance of Mariella Messina; she has participated in several festivals in Europe, Mexico and Latin America; and in recent dates, she has performed in artistic management and production.

She shared her gratitude for being chosen by FONCA, organism to which she presented the project "International Festival of Street Dance", that dates back one year, when she designed this festival as a window for dance, as a scenic art, to take to non-conventional and inclusive urban spaces.

To consolidate this project in 2018, she had the support from the University of Guanajuato which allowed to have artists from Mexico, Colombia and France, as well as to teach for free the students of scenic arts in the field of contemporary dance, using the presence of renowned artists.

The 2018 festival was only two days on the street, but because of the reception it had, they consider important to maintain and grow this project, hence she presented before the program of promotion for cultural projects and co-investments of FONCA, with a much broader programme, inclusion of more national and international groups, and last December 13, the grant money for such project was confirmed for its 2018-2019 edition.

Hernández Barrón is currently working on the program, which from December 9 to 13, will invade the urban public spaces of the city of Guanajuato, so the public can access for free to presentations of international quality and even interact with the artists.

She added that the program seeks a local, national and international aperture, and through a call they will invite the artists to participate in the festival's program.

For the program, they foresee worktables with specialists on the doing of dance today, that has gone out of the theaters to other architectonic spaces to be enjoyed by the listeners and, among others, they've invited Hayde Lachino; Dr. Krisztina Zimányi and Dr. Javier González García.

The selection of the groups who will participate in the festival will be done through a jury or committee which includes Alberto Estébanes, Vice President of the Collective of Associate Scenic Arts of Castilla & León (Artesa), and Francisco Córdova Azuela of the company Physical Momentum Project.

Evangelina Hernández added, despite the support from FONCA, they are aware a festival of this size must be backed by other institutions regarding financing, because they will offer lodging, food, transport and even a salary, so they are already negotiating with the City Hall of Guanajuato through the Department of Culture.

They have the support of the University of Guanajuato, who besides the diffusion and promotion of the event, they have offered the Ex Jesuit Convent patio and the San Roque plaza. In this tone, the call for the artistic participation in the "International Festival of Street Dance" will be issued briefly.
