León, Guanajuato February 28, 2019.- The second edition of the Biomaterials Symposium was carried out with the participation of undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Guanajuato (UG) León Campus and of the "Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores" (ENES) Unit León of the Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM).

Students and professor-researchers of the Division of Sciences and Engineering (DCI) of UG's León Campus, gathered at the event to present research projects, findings, importance and consequences in the social environment.

Besides presenting research orally and in poster, there were master conferences and workshops. At the event was announced the development of biomedical applications with the purpose to favor the quality of life of the patients.

Dr. José Jorge Delgado García, Coordinator of Support for Research and Postgraduate of León Campus, mentioned in an interview the importance of strengthening the research lines and joint work with researchers from different areas to develop applications that allow to improve the quality of life of people.

He explained that in the biomaterial field he has experience a successful progress in the last years in the use of prosthetics, implants, medical devices that are in contact with body tissue; plus materials that improve the surgical technique and rise the life expectancy of the patient, he pointed that these elements "are materials used to improve health" and have specifically designed for that.

He added that there are collaborations with the Interdisciplinary Group of Biomaterials of ENES UNAM, "that has made us find a lot of common ground and suggest materials that we can design and at the same time we offer them materials that we have tried in other type of wounds, precisely for dental treatments."

Dr. Arturo Vega González, professor-researcher of the UG made the presentation titled "Functional evaluation: Methodologies and Instrumentation", where he mentioned about his work at the DCI where they have designed fixed and mobile measurement instruments with the interest to achieve a greater precision in measuring parameters of interest which are useful for the patient's therapy.

In an interview he mentioned the importance of having technology that eases obtaining data for a functional valuation in different aspects same as generating instruments that help the therapy, to be technologically assisting.

In this activity, the following researchers also participated: Laura Castellanos, Pedro Muñoz, Argelia Rosillo and Birzabith Mendoza. The academic event is organized by the Development Laboratory of Biomaterials and Biotechnological Services ENES León-UG.
