León, Gto., March 13, 2019.- The student Ramón Alexandro Castañeda, student of the second semester of the degree in physics engineering of the University of Guanajuato (UG), will soon travel to Turkey as advisor of the team "Xpacers" of the educational robotics School "Excellis", where they will compete with teams of approximately 60 countries.
The advisory project arose on the initiative of Ramón, proposing the activity in his academic unit to be accepted as part of the university social service. Ramón's advice to these young students of the middle level consisted in creating a workshop of educational robotics and guiding them in the construction of a project of sustainable science, proposing not only the construction and correct functioning of the robots, but the food processing for astronauts based on insects (entomophagy in space), specifically with Acheta domesticus crickets.
The crickets are reproduced in a controlled environment simulating gravity in space, which aroused the interest of the evaluators in the regional Robotics competition, last January of the First Lego League, granting the first place in the contest of project Robots built from First Lego pieces and their pass to the national phase in the city of Monterrey, N.L. where they recently won third place, which earned them to opt for the trip to Turkey.
Regarding his participation as coach of this team of young students, Ramón commented that "over the last few months, I have been couch of an educational robotics team in the city of León; this competence as an educational robotics, is part of an organization called First, which seeks to develop interest in science and technology in young people from primary, secondary, to high school; now, this competition is part of First Lego League, which is more focused on primary and secondary, and has to do with Lego Mindstorms robots; my job is to help them with strategies for better performance in the competition. "
The student of the Division of Sciences and Engineering of the Campus León de la UG, also explained that the project is named Grifarm and was chosen based on the challenge of this year, called Into Orbit (' in orbit '), referring to space issues. It is divided into three parts: The Robot game (Robot game), the project as such (Project) and the values to be highlighted as a team (or Core Value).
In the development of the concept "Xpacers" also took part the engineer Juan Luis Breton Estrada, of Brain Shift Robotics Laboratory, project to which Ramon joined as former pupil of the Excellis school, contributing his international experiences in summers Scientists in Israel, and their participation in China in a similar competition, in addition to their knowledge in robotics and scientific research.
It should be mentioned that Ramón Alexandro is the son of Dr. Ramón Castañeda Priego, a leading researcher at UG who has obtained among other awards the research Prize 2016, in the area of exact sciences, by the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
