León, Gto., March 15, 2019.- In the framework of the annual report of activities and 10 years that the Campus León adopted the departmental model and multi Campus, the Rector of the university campus, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez announced that the number of full-time teachers (PTC) amounted from 152 to 204 in 2019, which represents a growth of 34%. In addition, 128 PTC are members of the National System of Researchers (SNI).
In this regard the Rector of the Campus León said that the figures mentioned represent "the relentless desire of our teachers to find academic excellence."
He also commented that the Campus León has changed along with society over 10 years, said he was convinced that "the only way to transcend is the joint effort. He mentioned that the University of Guanajuato must be a scenario of social, state and national influence.
In his report he highlighted that the Campus has 9 quality educational programs recognized by inter-institutional committees for the Evaluation of Higher Education (CIEES) and Council for accreditation of Higher Education, A.C. (COPAs) in 2018. It also has 21 postgraduate degrees in the National Quality postgraduate programme; Four times more than 2009.
Currently, the León Campus has an enrolment of 5134 students: 4049 undergraduate and 1085 postgraduate. In 2018, 1394 scholarships were awarded to students and the qualification rate increased to 12.4%.
As for infrastructure, the area of physical therapy and rehabilitation of the Torre Vida UG was delivered and equipped; innovative, transdisciplinary and multicampus project in which the three divisions of the León Campus converge.
The President of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino indicated that the Campus León has a scientific development of international level with an improvement in health sciences that has a national impact. He also noted that social studies should guide public policy "studies of art and culture must be strengthened because they are important to society and must have a greater projection".
Dr. Guerrero Agripino referred to the changes that derive from the new regulations to support the student's trajectory, favoring mobility, the use of technology and flexibility in the curriculum. "University autonomy cannot be separate from the concept of responsibility. Autonomy is a means to take on the commitment of teaching quality, research and cultural extension." He congratulated the Campus community and the rector for his leadership.
Dr. Carlota Meneses Sánchez, representing the academic community, celebrated the improvement of the substantive activities, the fulfillment of goals and indicators of the León Campus. As a teacher she said that teachers face different challenges, among them, to be an example to follow for their students. She called to assume a co-responsibility, to work as a team and to face the demands of the current educational policy and the demands of the new generations.
Nancy Angélica Blanco Arroyo, a graduate student in nursing and obstetrics and a beneficiary of the Puentes program who allowed her to resume her studies in Mexico after being deported from the United States, spoke on behalf of the student community. She said that the University of Guanajuato is a space where ideas converge, "is a space for innovation and development." She invited the community to be activists and rebels, people who challenge with their knowledge and love the models that no longer work.
The report was attended by one-person authorities and representatives of collegiate bodies of the University of Guanajuato, representatives of the public powers and different government units.
