
Salamanca, Gto., March 22, 2019.- With the presentation of a social media study, Luis Miguel López Santamaría, a graduate of the University of Guanajuato (UG), won the award for Best technical article at the 29th International Conference on Electronic Communications and Computing (CONIELECOMP 2019), held in Puebla.
The winner is a recent graduate of the computer systems degree from the engineering division of the Irapuato-Salamanca Campus and the content of his article "Age and gender identification in unbalanced social media" identifies age and gender in the user-generated content in Pinterest, one of the 10 largest social networking services worldwide.
In the article, where he appears as main author, also collaborated the following professors of the University of Guanajuato: his thesis advisor Dr. Juan Carlos Gómez Carranza; The director of the electronics department, Dr. Mario Alberto Ibarra Manzano and Dr. Dora Luz Almanza Ojeda.
It is worth mentioning that this article is part of a larger project that, with the support of the Sectorial fund CONACYT-INEGI, is being carried out in UG, although the segment that concurs in the Congress was related to the aforementioned platform to share images and that allows users to create and manage.
The work in mention was published in the Memoirs of the Congress CONIELECOMP 2019, which was hosted by the University of the Americas of Puebla (UDLAP), organized annually since 1990 by the Department of Computing, Electronics and Mechatronics with the support of the Section Puebla of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
The student thanked his thesis advisor for having excited to send his article, where he recognized the work published and presented by him with the "Best Paper Award."
The foregoing, evidence that the graduates of the University of Guanajuato can contribute to the technological, economic or social development in their areas of knowledge.
