León, Gto., March 25, 2019.- In order to make known the work done by professionals in biomedical engineering in the hospital field, as well as the responsibilities and importance of their functions to achieve the wellbeing and health of the patient, the student group of Clinical Engineering (GEIC) composed of students from the University of Guanajuato (UG) Campus León conducted guided visits to hospitals with staff from this area.
Rodrigo Ramírez Reyes, Daniel Ledesma Pérez, Jorge Bárcenas Núñez, Giovanni Sánchez Vega & Moisés Noé Guerrero Calvillo are students of biomedical engineering in the division of Sciences and Engineering and make up the student group of clinical engineering that organized visits to two hospitals in the city of León, in which the Department of Biomedical Engineering was implemented.
In an interview Rodrigo Ramírez, president of GEIC commented that students, health professionals and people interested in learning about the activities, contributions made by the professionals of this area, as well as to make known how the process of Implementation of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the improvements obtained, said that "by having a bio-medic in a hospital many processes are improved", expenses are reduced and better care is given to the patient.
He said "We are the first contact they have at the time of a failure, we are also responsible for the training given to them, the moment a team arrives at the hospital we are responsible for training them on the team, explaining the More common failures and how to solve them."
He said that in both hospitals currently work graduates of biomedical engineering of the UG and are responsible for verifying the proper functioning of medical technology, in addition to working together with the health team to help improve the care, diagnosis and treatment of patients and reduce health risks of staff working in hospitals.
He added that the role of biomedical engineers in health institutions covers many activities, including the proper distribution of infrastructure, training health personnel to operate acquired technology and maintenance.
He concluded that operating properly the equipment found in hospitals such as incubators, vital signs monitor, tomographs, magnetic resonances, linear accelerators, mechanical fans and more complex equipment is of vital importance.
