Salamanca, Gto., May 10, 2019.-Students from the engineering division of the University of Guanajuato (UG) support the preservation and dissemination of the traditions of the Huasteca region, by representing the Campus Irapuato-Salamanca in the 50th National Dance Competition of Huastec Huapango carried out in San Joaquin, Queretaro.
Rebeca Lanelí Aguilar Chávez, a student of the Bachelor of Business Administration and Carlos Francisco Manjarrez Rodríguez, students of electrical engineering, represented the UG with their presentation of Huastec Huapango Tamaulipas style.
There were 665 participants, who in different styles such as Tamaulipas, Potosino, Hidalgo, Queretano and Poblano executed their dances in the house of the Huapango "Crescencio Méndez Barajas", where musicians and dancers from different states of the country flaunted Originality, costumes, choreography and scenic production.
Rebeca Aguilar thanked the support of the university to attend the national contest, which involved small "huapangueritos" from 4 years old, youth and adults competing with Francisco Manjarrez in this last category.
He explained that around 300 contestants were eliminated in the first round, which is why she feels very satisfied that she has gone on to the second round. "We had to compete at 2 in the morning, but it is a really amazing experience, because at 5 am ended the first round with full auditorium."
For their participation they rehearsed since November because they wanted to represent as best as possible the UG in a scenario so large, where the participants must improvise, because when going up to the stage they play a random huastec song. The couple should listen to it and have knowledge of the rhythm and structure: When the trio sings, the dancers rest and when the violin is played, the contestants enter with a zapateado.
"It was a great experience to meet people from other states, exchange ideas and opinions, besides feeling the warmth of the people in the community, where inhabitants and traders listen to huapangos", said Rebeca, while remembering that that it is the second time they attend the contest with the same emotion of preparing the costumes and makeup.
This year, the DICIS students were able to meet the trios "Genuinos de Hidalgo", "Huapangueros diferentes", "Juglar", "Los Hidalguenses" y "Cantores del Alba", as well as the first champions of every style in the contest.
