Yuriria, Gto., May 3, 2019.- At the Yuriria headquarters of the University of Guanajuato (UG) 33 students from different educational programs participate in the Future Leaders UG program, created 4 years ago to motivate elementary students to continue their studies, with the organization of guided visits and science fairs in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DEM).
To that end, they were visited by children from the first to the sixth grade of Euroamericano School and the Miguel Hidalgo Elementary School of the Granjenal community, both schools in the municipality of Yuriria.
Alejandro Jaramillo Dávalos, coordinator of Future Leaders UG, reported that the guided tour included the different laboratories to show the work that professors and students perform in the area of manufacturing and robotics, such as the lathe controlled by robots as well as the line-follower robots created by students.
They showed them some retro video games and for 30 minutes they participated in a mini tournament with video games that the university students themselves manufactured using a low-cost computer card called raspberry pi. They were then taken to the electronics lab, where they observed the operation of oscilloscopes, power supplies and programmable logic controllers for basic electronic circuits.
They also organized a fun English dynamic through techniques designed by students of the English language teaching degree to practice the idiom in a new way. In the laboratory of physics and chemistry, they were able to observe phenomena with which they meet daily and thus to understand why these things happen. In addition, they knew the lasers and when they entered the optical labs they observed as a high-powered laser can have several functions in daily life.
Other dynamics that prepared for the children were working as a team and basic entrepreneur, explaining how from childhood they could create basic habits such as savings and administration, which will be useful in a microenterprise. In addition, the organizers set up a project fair, to show works they made through homemade objects, as well as human development, entrepreneurial and ecological activities.
The teachers of the invited elementary schools thanked the opportunity to know the university and considered that education is the basis for improving the lives of the new generations.
