Salamanca, Gto., May 24, 2019.- To motivate sixth-grade girls and boys to be interested in science, students from the engineering division of the University of Guanajuato (UG) conducted the E3 Fair Science Fair.

Members of the Pi Tau Sigma Student Chapter, the student section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Mexican Society of Mechanical Engineers (SOMIM) and the IEEE-Photonics-UG chapter, with the support of their professors, carried out in the House of the Culture of Salamanca the engineering, exploration, and experimentation fair.

Events of this type allow university students to give back to Mexico the knowledge acquired, so the main objective of this program is to motivate the elementary school children in the municipality of Salamanca to continue their studies and in their future consider a scientific, engineering or a technological profession.

The fair was visited by approximately 1,000 students of elementary schools in Salamanca, who, accompanied by their professors, were able to know more than 40 scientific experiments that the university students prepared in different areas: mechanics, dynamics, optics, heat transfer, fluids, electronics, among others.

Teacher Berenice Yáñez Manríquez of the Ignacio Allende Elementary School commented that it is the first occasion that attends, however, she noticed that the experiments kept the children interested and entertained. For his part, Oscar Augusto Pacheco, a student of Mechatronics engineering, said that "the projects were of interest to the young, which fosters their curiosity and desire to approach science and technology."

The hosts answered questions in each experiment, and at the end of the event met all the participants for a raffle, rewarding the little ones who most participated with questions or answers during the tour.

The science fair for Children had the voluntary participation of about 250 undergraduate, master and doctoral students from the Campus-Salamanca Engineering Division of the University of Guanajuato and with the support of the Ministry of Education Regional Delegation VII, by Professor Leonardo Flores Miranda.
