Guanajuato, Gto., May 16, 2019.- The XXIX International Cervantino Colloquium will take place from the 22nd to the 24th of May in the Teatro Juárez in the city of Guanajuato capital, as announced in a press conference, by the Director of the Iconographic Museum of Don Quixote (MIQ), Onofre Sánchez and the Director of the University Theatre, Hugo Gamba.

29 years of the existence of this colloquium organized by the Government of the state of Guanajuato, the University of Guanajuato, the "Fundación Cervantina de México A.C." and the Center for Cervantine Studies, through the Iconographic Museum of Don Quixote.

The Director of the MIQ commented that for this edition the thematic axis is the commemoration of the 500 years of the arrival of the Spaniards to the American continent. Within the framework of the Colloquium's activities, there will be 12 expert and experts from national and foreign institutions that will meet in order to revise the characteristics of the pre-Columbian texts and other literary and historical writings of the New Spain in Three blocks: Texts by Hernán Cortés, indigenous texts and post-conquest texts after.


They will be present: Christian Duverger, Alberto Ruy Sánchez, Beatriz Aracil, Antonio Aimi, Bernard Lavallé, Patrick Johansson, María Castañeda de la Paz, Michel Oudijk, Rodrigo Martínez Baracs, Luis Barjau and Miguel Zugasti. Specialists from Mexico, Spain, France, Holland and Italy, he added.

It should be noted that the academic activities of the Colloquium Cervantino Internacional will be complemented with theatre and music so it will have the participation of the University Theatre Group of the University of Guanajuato, in the representation of the Cervantine Hors d'oeuvres in the square of San Roque on the 23rd, in that sense Hugo Gamba distinguished that for the University Theatre it is an honor to participate in this staging that has become a Guanajuato tradition to pay homage to Cervantes.

In the same way, the Youth Symphony Orchestra "Silvestre Revueltas" of the Conservatory of Music and Arts of Celaya will present the closing concert directed by Juan Trigos in the Teatro Juárez.
