
León, Gto., May 30, 2019.- Students of the bachelor's degree in Nutrition from the University of Guanajuato (UG) Campus León, presented research papers that addressed topics with little scientific evidence related to the nutritional status of older adults, students and different segments of the population.
Young people presented 11 research papers in which they evaluated anthropometric indicators: weight, height, waist circumference, energy and nutrition consumption, as well as researching the relationship it has with anxiety factors, stress and other health effects.
After a work of approximately one year, the main findings of the research projects in which educational interventions were carried out in athletes, in addition to providing nutrition guidance to third and fourth year students of conduct nutrition status assessment in older adults attending Homes of the System for Integral Family Development (DIF) and people at different stages of life were presented. As well as the study on the consumption of sugary drinks and processed foods in the student community of the UG Leon Campus.
In this sense, Dr. María Guadalupe Reynaga Ornelas, a professor-researcher in the Department of Medicine and Nutrition commented in an interview that an important part of the professional training of students is to conduct research on topics where nutrition professionals can step in and work together with the health team to provide solutions for solving current and future problems.
She said that the studies presented are part of the work that was done in the field of Research Methodology, it should be noted that the different studies managed to know eating habits, analyze signs and symptoms related to poor nutrition as they can be skin spots, hair coloring, among others to analyze their relationship with health problems such as overweight, obesity and develop ideal eating plans for the conditions of girls, boys, young people and adults.
For her part, Mariana González Aboytes was in charge of presenting the study she conducted on the nutrition status and depressive symptoms in older adults attending gerontological centers where she commented that, in conjunction with three of her peers, they worked for 12 months and this is "a population that is studied very little and that in general there is not much information to develop such projects", noted that they found a "relationship between depression and nutrition, since the worse nutrition is risk of depression."
Another important aspect of the presentation of the work was to highlight the work of the professional in this area and its impact on society as it is an essential part of promoting better health-promoting eating habits and conveying the message that healthy eating is one of the pillars of well-being.
