Guanajuato, Gto., August 26, 2019.- At the University of Guanajuato (UG) a memorial ceremony was held to celebrate 80 years of the Free Legal Law Firm, which has been a hotbed of litigants and an example of the social commitment of the Institution.

At the event, the President of the UG, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino emphasized that the major projects are the product of collective efforts, so he expressed his appreciation to those who have been part of the Firm over eight decades.

He recalled that the firm arose when the university was a school, and before the institutionalization of university social service. He considered that the responsibility of the new generations of university students was very high, because it was up to them to continue this great project and to make progress.

He therefore assumed this act as the start of the commitments that were being made in the context of the 80th anniversary. In this regard, he referred to the need to establish greater ties with the government, an annual training program for students and to find ways to expand it, given the number of applicants.

The Rector of the Guanajuato Campus, Dr. Teresita de Jesús Huerta Barrera stated that social service arose in the 30s of the last century, at times marked by the deterioration of the economy and the oil crisis, among other events that led to the ideals of social justice permeate among university students, who began to look for ways to help the most unprotected.

Today the Firm is a university liaison of academic activities with the environment and has allowed students to carry out their internships with real cases and as a result, exemplary lawyers have been trained.

The General Coordinator of the Law Firm, Mtro. Israel Martínez Ponce stated that this project is a scenario for comprehensive student training and at the same time an example of social service. He emphasized that society requires lawyers with great sensitivity, and this is maximized in those who have collaborated in the firm with an attachment to legality and justice.

At the ceremony the award was carried out to those who are part of this project, and offered a message the Student Coordinator of the firm, Xareni Jiménez Jiménez, who emphasized that through the firm have been trained lawyers, judges and advisers and have influenced students to know what they will do throughout their lives. It has also helped thousands of Guanajuatenses have access to justice.

The ceremony was also offered by the Director of the Division of Law, Politics and Government, Dr. Eduardo Pérez Alonso, and the Director of the Law Department, Dr. Leandro Eduardo Astraín Bañuelos, who referred to the essence of law and joined congratulations and recognition to those who have been part of this noble university project.
