Guanajuato, Gto., August 23, 2019.- The University of Guanajuato (UG) and the National Electoral Institute (INE) signed a general agreement for collaboration on human rights, equal participation and promotion of democratic culture.

In this regard, the President of the UG, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, argued that --as a public university-- a strong commitment has been made to the promotion of the culture of legality, for which work is carried out inside and outside the House of Studies with programs such as Co-citizenship.

He further argued that Mexican youth require spaces of expression and realization, and this agreement opens new opportunities to engage them in activities that contribute to the strengthening of democratic culture; thanking the INE for the trust placed in the House of Studies to work together.

For his part, the President-Councilor of the INE, Dr. Lorenzo Córdova Vianello emphasized that the University of Guanajuato is one of the most prestigious institutions among the public universities of the country, and now becomes a "strategic ally" in the consolidation of democracy.

He hoped that this convention would be the starting point for greater collaboration between the two institutions and was very pleased –as an academic and as an official– for the signing of the Convention.

In his speech, Dr. Córdova Vianello said that Mexico has achieved a peaceful transition from the hegemonic party system and phenomena such as alternation, competitiveness, plurality, and minority participation in politics have become every day in our country. However, a great slope is the construction and empowerment of citizens.

For this reason, he celebrated this sum of efforts with the University of Guanajuato and was convinced that the realization of materials, courses, seminars, workshops, factors will contribute to reduce the deficits of citizenship.

Also present at the event was the Executive Member of the Local Executive Board of Guanajuato, Lic. Jaime Juárez Jasso, who explained that the convention lays the foundations and mechanisms for the exchange of knowledge and experience human rights, equal participation and the promotion of democratic culture.

He also emphasized that citizenship is exercised throughout the life from the age of 18, so the university stage is fundamental in the field of civic education.

Representatives of the university community, the INE and the Electoral Institute of the State of Guanajuato were present at the event.
