Guanajuato, Gto., August 17, 2019.- The University of Guanajuato (UG) has positioned itself as a benchmark in scientific research development as well as in the transfer of knowledge. Over the past four years, the number of professors who are part of the National System of Researchers (SNI) has increased by 44.8 percent, and currently ranks second nationally among state public universities by the number of members in that system.

The UG has 540 full-time professors registered in the National System of Researchers, and a total of 583 members of the academic plant in the same system. These figures represent 54.8% of the total number of researchers in the state of Guanajuato in the SNI.

In addition, thanks to the capacity, effort and quality of academic work carried out in the UG, in the period 2015-2019 it was possible to attract funding for 219 research projects, totaling 162 million pesos.

Three main projects supported by mixed funds from the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) stand out: the State Telecommunications Network for the Research and Dissemination of Science and Technology of Guanajuato; The Internet Unit of the Future for the State of Guanajuato and the Internet of Things project for the Energy Sector.

In addition, the Interinstitutional Energy Center of the University of Guanajuato (CINERGIA UG) managed resources of more than 28 million pesos, in accompaniment to seven interdisciplinary and inter-agency projects on technological research, as well as development of clean and alternative energies.

The need to protect the inventions of researchers has led the House of Studies to promote an intellectual property culture. As a result, the number of inventions increased by 50 percent during this administration, while the number of patents transferred increased from 4 to 13, resulting in an increase of more than 220 percent.

An important effort to support knowledge transfer has been the creation of the Ecosystem linking, innovation, development and knowledge application of the University of Guanajuato (VIDA UG), which articulates community efforts and intends to develop comprehensive transdisciplinary projects that contribute to the solution of social problems and meet the demands of the government and productive sector.
