Silvia Álvarez Bruneliere, received the prize "Género y Liderazgo en la Educación Superior (Gender and Leadership in Higher Education) granted by the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (OUI) and the Space for Women Leaders from Higher Education Institutions in the Americas (EMULIES).

University of Guanajuato's professor and researcher received the prize for her achievements in management, teaching and research, her contributions for gender equality in higher education institutions and her contribution to visualize the work of women in America's universities.

People who also received the EMULIES prize were Ligia Amada Melo, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology from the Dominican Republic. Marcela Paredes, Minister of Education in Panama, Sonia Marta Mora, Minister of Education in Costa Rica and Vianne Timmons, rector for the University of Regina, Canada.

M. Silvia Álvarez Bruneliere had an outstanding trajectory as chemist-pharmacist-biologist at the University of Guanajuato, and has postgraduates in the area of Biochemistry by the Nancy-Université (France) and in the area of Planning and Development by the University of Monterrey (Mexico) & Harvard (US).

In the University of Guanajuato, she performed great leadership as Head of the (then) Faculty of Chemistry, Provost and Rector. She became part of the Honorable Board of Directors, the collegiate body that determines the unipersonal authorities with great hierarchy in the University of Guanajuato.

The award was granted within the activities of the "IV Encuentro EMULIES" (4th EMULIES encounter) that took place in Quito, Ecuador. This event gathers an important group of women leaders in Higher education with the purpose to argue, think and exchange experiences on breakthroughs and challenges in gender equality in the Higher education institutions and their impact in the university management and academic excellence.

The General Rector from the University of Guanajuato, Ph.D. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino was present in the event performed by the National Institute of Higher Education Studies (IAEN). The rector participated in the general assembly of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education.

Composed by 327 members from Higher Education Institutions and Associations from twenty-six countries in America, OUI is one of the organizations that promote the award. Currently covers more than 5 million decision makers, directors, professors, researchers and students.
