León, Guanajuato October 23, 2015.- Social research at the University of Guanajuato develops the theoretical-empirical activity performed by the Academic Group (Ca for its acronym in Spanish) under the name: Social transformations and Territorial Dynamics from the Social Sciences and Human Studies Division (DCSyH for its acronym in Spanish) from Campus Leon.

Dr. Alex Caldera Ortega, responsible for the Academic Group, indicated that this research developed research lines: "regarding a common axis that is the problem of the paradigm of human development".

In this matter, there are research since 2011 that work with different theoretic, methodological and disciplinary focus in Social Sciences. The importance of the performed studies and in process, besides their theoretical development, strives in the empirical emphasis which has set to know the quality of life and wellbeing of Guanajuato's and the region's population.

"Today you cannot think of the city governments independently from the global context, more like a story that impregnates politics, media, science, technology, economy and other sectors and social actors", stated the professor.

Human development as a paradigm, spun and broadened the panorama, pointing now, the richness of human life, observing what it is and no the economic wealth who determine the progress –according Amartya Sen's ideas—main thinker of this influential current.

The Academic Group began their research by developing the topic "Economic growth and local development in the Central-Bajío region" that covers from Queretaro, going through Guanajuato's industrial corridor to Aguascalientes. FORDECYT-CONACYT as well as ten cities in the region funded, supported, and benefited by this research.

With the purpose to enrich their processes, the State of Guanajuato Planning Institute (IPLANEG for its acronym in Spanish) did a posterior research on their planning units. The research occurred in Guanajuato's northern region covering eleven northeastern cities, from Xichu to Ocampo. They analyzed aspects such as the local government capability, environmental-economic aspects and social development.

Currently, the academic group is performing an evaluation of the State Development Plan 2035, which analyzes the political topic, citizen participation as well as control and accountability.

Members of the academic group and their research topics are the following: Dr. Jessica Vega and Dr. Jacobo Herrera work in the topic of security since sociology and social psychology respectively. Dr. Erika Carcaño and Dr. Daniel Tagle study the environment problem related to society and economy.

Dr. Aurea Valerdí analyzes from the sociology point of view, the wellbeing, gender and free time. At the same time, Dr. José Luis Coronado covers health and education; and Dr. Lorena Álvarez Castañon works in innovation and development. Dr. Gustavo Garabito centers his studies in the job market and lastly, Dr. Alex Caldera who works from the political science and public administration point of view, topics for institutional strengthening of the local government capability.
