El Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino participa en la 1ª reunión "México, Centroamérica y el Caribe"

Guanajuato, Gto., November 20, 2015. With the purpose to analyze the challenge, higher education faces in the region, the General Rector from the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, participates in the first reunion "México; Centroamérica y el Caribe" from the Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (UDUAL), which is held in the "Universidad Veracruzana".

In this first edition of the UDUAL edition, representatives from 105 universities from twelve countries in this region, assisted. In the matter, Union's president, José Tadeu Jorge, Rector from the "Universidad Estatal de Campinas" in Brazil, highlighted that the purpose of this meeting is to establish a space to debate university projects from the participant institutions such as evaluation and accreditation, mobility, the common space for education and several problems that higher education faces in Latin America.

He remarked, "This new way of treating the topics represents an improvement for UDUAL", and referred that the evaluation and accreditation processes "are the bases and livelihood of a common space for higher education"; this first encounter, said, "Could significantly contribute in reaching our goals".

On his part, Roberto Escalante Semerena, General Secretary from UDUAL, expressed that this organism with sixty-six years of history has as its fundament the autonomy that is "a law and an obligation from the universities".

Higher education institutes "work in benefit of society, and are both the purpose and heart that encourages this reunion", affirmed when remaking the expectation of creating "a wider horizon that allows us to work together and converge our efforts to serve society better".

Finally, the Rector from the Universidad Veracruzana, Sara Ladrón de Guevara, welcomed the universities' rectors and directors with whom "share so many; a history, a past, a culture that is a sum of diversities, a destiny, in many cases a language, and above all, the objective to offer our youth a higher quality education and the service of the best social causes", she said.

In that sense, she referred that "we are at the level of tasks and objectives that UDUAL has proposed; as an expression that, besides being great hosts, we know how to be good route partners, and as a way to say that, above all, this house of study is also you house".

At the inauguration, Itzcoatl Tonatiuh Bravo Padilla, General Rector from the University of Guadalajara and Vice-president of the region Mexico; Ángel Hernández Castillo, Rector from the "Universidad Abierta para Adultos de República Dominicana" and Vice-president of the Caribbean region; Etelvina de Bonagas, Rector from the "Universidad Autónoma de Chiríquí" in Panama and Vice-president the Central America region; and Ramón Poo Gil, mayor of Veracruz were present.
