
León, Gto., November 21, 2015.- Four renowned researchers visit the area of study of the Advanced Glycation End-Products (AGEs) in the University of Guanajuato, within the activities of the world day for diabetes, through a seminar with the name "En busqueda de la prevención de la Diabetes Mellitus y sus complicaciones" (In search of the prevention of Diabetes Mellitus and its complications).
The director of the Department of Medical Sciences from Campus Leon from the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Maria Eugenia Caray Sevilla, organized this visit.
The seminar had topics such as Food and its impact in health, with the participation of Dr. Jaime Uribarri from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City, USA. Also, the collaboration of Dr. Alejandro Gugliucci from Touro University, California, USA.
On her part, Dr. Maria Pia de la Maza from the University of Chile developed the topic: "How to avoid the AGEs of the diet without dietary restrictions". Equally, Dr. Maria Dolores del Castillo from the Research Institute of Nutrition Sciences, UAM-CSIC, Madrid, Spain, intervened with the topic: "Reduction of the sugar content in food. A strategy to reduce the risk of diabetes and its complications".
In the event, professors from the University of Guanajuato from Campus Leon like Dr. Claudia Luevano Contreras and Dr. Maciste Habacuc Macias Cervantes, coordinator of the master degree in medical sciences, participated.
The seminar had the presence of more than 200 postgraduate students, professionals and researchers from the area of health of different institutions from the state and country. This event seeks to divulge the research works and modify risk behaviors that help diminish the indexes of diabetes in Mexico.
In addition, it seeks to collaborate more closely with the Secretary of Health from the states to announce contents that inform the population to diminish the consumption of foods that increase the risk of getting the disease as well as to modify the cooking processes to eliminate harmful substances for the organism.
Researchers will continue developing content on the topic; therefore, there is an open invitation for the next Spanish-American Symposium; The AGEs and Health that will occur in September 26 – 28, 2016 in Santiago de Chile.
