Salamanca, Gto., November 24, 2015.- The expo "Una artista llamada Luz" (an artist called light) from the professor of the Division of Engineering from the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Cristina Margarita Gómez Sarabia and students from the program in mechatronic and digital arts, represents an alloy of science and art.

Their works exhibit from November 25 – 27 at the "Casa de la Cultura" of Salamanca, they show phenomena from optics such as light polarization and caustic by reflection, meaning, the surrounding of light rays reflected from a curve object or surface, o the projection of that surrounding of rays on another surface.

The hall remains with the lights off so the public can appreciate the forms and phenomena from light caused by the conceptualized works from Dr. Gómez Sarabia and designed by the students Marco Antonio Barrera Berdeja, Karla Lizbeth Miranda Hernández and José Tomás Rodríguez Doñate.

When entering the place, you can see three fish tanks, one with small multicolor fishes who swim in the waving waters; another with butterflies on a tree branch fluttering their wings and the last one with seahorses, octopuses and jellyfishes, all elaborated with material that allows the polarization of light, in addition to movement forms that are shown with realism.

The butterfly work named "anti-taxidermia" (anti-taxidermy) is a form to reject using real animals, student from Digital Arts, José Rodriguez explained. He is also a creator of the work "Tormenta" (Storm) that uses lasers and crystals with textures that respond to touch sensors, reflecting intricate forma in a green hue.

The work "Pintura a la luz" (light painting) from Karla Lizbeth Miranda is an homage to light since she uses it as a pigment through color sequins and a reflector. The caustic by reflection phenomenon –says the student—allows showing the importance of light in everyday life.

"Vista hacia el universo" (View to the universe) is another of the works that project a light image in the roof, that simulates a galaxy in the space. Another work designed by students from arts and mechatronics, it is a mechanism with a pulley that spins a polarizing.

This is the result from six years work from the professors Margarita Gómez Sarabia, Ph.D. in physics specialized in optics and member of the academic body of design and manufacture from the Department of Mechanics in the Division of Engineering in Salamanca. The university professor teaches the subject of theory of color, discrete math, as well as the workshop on applied optics to art for students in digital arts.

M. Estevan Martínez Hernández, general director from "Cultura, Educación, Deporte y Atención a la Juventud" (culture, education, sports and attention to youth) from Salamanca inaugurated her expo, accompanied by the rector from UG's Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, Dr. Ernesto Camarena Aguilar and the director from the Division of Engineering, Dr. Roberto Rojas Laguna.
