
Guanajuato, Gto., November 30, 2015. High School students from the University of Guanajuato obtained silver medals in the XXIX Mexican Olympics of Mathematics (OMM), the most important competition of this discipline in the nation in a high school level.
The students are Irwin Enrique Villalobos López from High School Pénjamo; Héctor Eduardo Parga Nájera, High School Guanajuato and Tulio Muñoz Magaña from High School Salamanca.
In addition, of the high school students, the Guanajuato Delegation that participated at OMM is composed by Israel Bonal Rodríguez, student from CBTIS 65, Eric Zavala López, from the High School in South Guanajuato and Jesús Omar Sistos Barrón, from the School "SuBiré" from Leon.
Guanajuato delegation was awarded with the "Superación" cup for the notorious growth that the state has shown for three consecutive years. Nationally, this delegation finished in 5th place, the best position they have achieved in almost twenty years.
The results from the 29 Mexican Olympics of Mathematics are historic for the state, because all six participants received medals. Besides the three medals the High school students from the University of Guanajuato won, Israel Bonal Rodríguez took the gold medal and Eric Zavala and Jesús Omar returned home with bronze medals.
Guanajuato's delegate from OMM, Maria Fernanda de la Torre Robles, explained that the trainers for these young people are students from the University of Guanajuato and the "Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Besides, they have the support from the Secretary of Education from Guanajuato, though the "Centro de Investigaciones Matemáticas" (CIMAT).
It is worth to mention that to form the delegation who represented Guanajuato in this OMM's edition, there was a first selection from among 1,500 youth all over the state, the number of selected diminished until reaching six, from which three are high school students.
The Mexican Olympics of Mathematics is a program of the Mexican Mathematic Society (SMM), whose objective is to promote the study of this discipline in a creative form, drifting from the traditional study that promotes memorization and mechanization seeking to develop reasoning and imagination in the youth.
