León, Gto., December 4, 2015.- Professors from the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies from Campus Leon inaugurated the second phase of the seminar "Emerging social change and dynamics in Latin America", held at San Carlos from the University of Guanajuato (UG).

The Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies covers three departments: Department of Cultural Studies, Departments of Social Studies and Department of Public Management and Development; who are composed by scholar with expertise in migration, aging, health, security, public policies and development, and they have the experience to converge in this type of macro projects.

During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, Rector from Campus Leon, commented that the main objective as university members "is to construct a space for thought towards the main challenges Latin America faces in three spheres: the construction of citizenship, local identity claim in a global world and the democratic construction of a public action that clearly impacts in the local development".

There also was the presence of Dr. Arturo Alvarado Mendoza, director of Sociological Studies from Colegio de Mexico, who commented that being in the campus, one reinforces from the main objectives set by the academics in Campus Leon and Colegio de Mexico, which is the metropolitan development of Leon and their economic, social, political and environmental impacts in urban development, politics, culture and everyday life.

This seminar will continue in the first semester of 2016 to analyze the development of the new metropolis from bajio that probably, according the studies done by UG reseaarchers and Colegio de Mexico, will be one of the most important manufacturing areas of Mexico and America.

Dr. Alvarado mentioned that Campus Leon will be the most ideal place to develop this long term program and highlighted that there are different projects on the eve of the health areas, remarking the multidisciplinary job between the divisions of Campus Leon.

At the end of the protocol ceremony, there was the presentation of the book "Vidas truncadas: El exceso del homocidios en la juventud de America Latina, 1990 – 2010" which shows the study of four main countries Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, from the authorship of Dr. Arturo Alvarado Mendoza. Dr. Jessica Vega Zayas and Gustavo Garabito, both researchers-professors from the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies, commented the work.
