León, Gto., December 4, 2015.- The Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies from Campus Leaon held the presentation of the book "Vidas Truncadas: el exceso de homicidios en la juventud de América Latina, 1990 – 2010, los casos de Aregntina Brasil, Colombia y México", from the authorship of Arturo Alvarado Mendoza, researcher and director of the Center of Sociological Studies from "El Colegio de México (Colmex).

The editorial presentation occurred within activities from the seminar "Emerging social change and dynamics in Latin America", this edition was oriented to social problems that derivate from the topic "Citizenship, governability and local development".

The book develops a comparative study of the index of youth's death in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Colombia. For Alvarado Mendoza, Dr. in Social Sciences specialized in Sociology, the same construction of the indexes indicates a serious problem, because "the vital registries in Latin America in general are not thorough, especially the public statistics and the criminal statistics on homicides":

According with Colmex's researcher, in 2000 – 2010 the mortality for aggressions in Latin America reached the alarming number of 1,700,000 people, which leads to a macro-social phenomenon.

The importance of this collective work resides in the description of the ambient of violence that suffers the American continent, especially the regions analyzed in the book; therefore, the knowledge that provides solving ways is essential.

The population considered in the book is youth between 10 and 29 years old. In accordance with Dr. Alvarado, Mexico is the third place in homicide rates in Latin America, for every 100,000 habitants there are 12 homicides and from 2007 increased to 20 by every 100,000.

The three main causes for mortality in the youth are traffic accidents, aggressions and suicides. On the topic of death by aggression, the main cause is a firearm, followed by sharp objects.

All this has led Colmex's academic to think that death by aggression in youth is "a central component of vulnerability where the young is the victim and victimizer".

The specialist professors and researchers that commented on the book to a vast audience of students and professors from bachelor and postgraduate were Dr. Jesica Vega and Dr. Gustavo Garavito.

In addition, present at the event were Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, Rector from Campus Leon, as well as Dr. Juan Antonio Rodríguez, director of the Department of Social Studies.
