
Guanajuato, Gto., a 11 de diciembre de 2015.- The outstanding academic, Dr. Ana Paola Hall García, visited the University of Guanajuato (UG) to give the conference "The Honduran criminal justice system" held at the Ashland Hall in UG's Central building.
Dr. Ana Paola Hall is a technical assistant at the Attorney General of Public Prosecutions from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and has a sound trajectory and expertise in the subject of criminal justice.
The Ph.D. in Criminal Law by the University of Salamanca, Spain, highlighted that the public institutions must reinforce the relationships with the universities, since she assured that the topic of social security, "is a matter that involves all of us, that is why we have to collaborate to generate solutions to the problems of crimes and felonies that most Latin American countries face like Honduras and Mexico".
In the beginning, Dr. Hall García began the talk giving a panorama of the justice system in Honduras, which has several elements that need reinforcement due to the high indexes of violence and delinquency in which the country is immerse. Dr. Hall assured that the statistics show that there is an average of fourteen murders every day in Honduras, alarming number that indicate the necessity of a rethinking of public policies to reduce violence in society.
She mentioned that one of the first points to optimize is the definition of a strategic prosecution; in the same way, she indicated that it is essential to effectively lead the research. That is why Dr. Hall García said to be extremely important to previously program the research policies.
Another parameter to improve is the penal code, because in Honduras, this has to many reforms and modifications, but the reality is that crimes have not diminished, that is why the Doctor in Criminal Law proposes an interinstitutional link in criminal justice where the universities have an important role to fight violence, impunity and corruption.
