
León, Gto., December 14, 2015.- The ninth edition of the Diploma in Therapeutic Education in Diabetes offered by the Division of Health Sciences from Campus Leon from the University of Guanajuato reached its conclusion in which 29 health professionals finished their studies certifying them as educators in diabetes.
For five months, during Fridays and Saturdays, students from this diploma received the information that certifies them as specialists in the care, prevention and control of this ailment in public health. Dr. Sergio Márquez Gamiño, professor and researcher from Campus Leon and representing the World Diabetes Foundation, mentioned that the main axis of action for this educative program is the individual, in which, and tries to understand how the psychosocial being requires the support and contribution of each one who is part of their context.
He mentioned that the 31% of the students in the diploma are medics, 52% are nutrionists and 10% are nurses, all professionals in the area of health with the common objective to help the patient living with diabetes. During the nine editions of the diploma, they have received students from different cities, however, commented that they need to influence more in cities like Ocampo, Cuerámaro, Doctor Mora and Tierra Blanca, places that require therapeutic educators in diabetes.
This diploma works in modules taught by guest professors both national and foreign, for example, in October they had the presence of Dr. Carol Baldwin from Arizona State University who covered the topic on sleep disorders.
Dr. Márquez Gamiño emphasized how the students learned was very significant because they covered aspects like complimentary therapies, elaboration of didactic material, self-glucose monitoring, insulin application techniques and physical activation for the person with diabetes.
The tenth edition of this diploma will begin next February 2016, and it will have the certification from World Diabetes Foundation. For more information, please visit www.ugto.mx/campusleon.
