
León, Gto., December 14, 2015.- Researcher-professors from the Division of Health Sciences from Campus León from the University of Guanajuato, led the "Simposio de Salud ambiental: presente y future", with the objective to invite experts from different institutions in the country and establish collaboration links to determine the problems of environmental health in Guanajuato.
Dr. Octavio Alejandro Jiménez Garza, researcher-professors from the Division of Health Sciences from Campus León and general coordinator of the symposium, honed in that they are making an environmental health diagnosis in the state of Guanajuato related to the atmospheric pollution, specifically in cities like Salamanca and León. Places where besides having this type of pollution there are problems in the water and in the production of pet containers that in the end affect the citizens in health problems such as asthma, cancer, diabetes, heart attacks and obesity.
It is important to remark, that Dr. Jiménez Garza is part of the themed network on child environmental health from CONACYT (National Council for Science and Technology). This network works actively in research projects that have an impact on environmental health.
At the event, he mentioned that the University of Guanajuato is concerned for the environmental health and that there are professors in Campus Leon who are with him in analyzing the effects of pollution in the health from people in Guanajuato, result not only from external factors but also internal like using the car and keep food in inadequate containers.
"We have to recognize that the environmental health is a problem and work on it, our task is to research and try to avoid the conflicts the pollution presents in health", he added.
On the other hand, the Director from the themed network on environmental health from CONACYT, Dr. Fernando Díaz Barriga was a guest speaker from the symposium with the topic "Effects of health associated to environmental pollution in Mexican children", also M. José Luis Texcalac Sangrador, Director of Environmental Health from the National Institute for Public Health, M. Mario Rivera Guillén from the Biomedical Research Center from the "Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila" and Dr. Guadalupe Aguilar Madrid from the research unit in labor health from the "Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI" from the "Instituto Mexicano del Seguo Social".
Finally, Dr. Jiménez Garza highlighted that the University of Guanajuato has a commitment with society to explain the several aspects of environmental health and even involve the citizens in what the pollution can generate in everyday life.
For the year 2016, the second symposium is expected to provide continuity and diffusion to the diagnosis of environmental health in the state.
