
Irapuato, Gto. December 14, 2015.- Two female students from the Division of Life Sciences (DICIVA) from the University of Guanajuato are winners from the national thesis contest in bachelor and master degree from the Mexican Society in Sustainable Agriculture (SOMAS).
Angeles Mendiola García coursed the program of Environmental engineering and obtained the first place in the contest with her project "Evaluación de la capacidad de remoción de compuestos nitrogenados y fosfatos utilizando diferentes sustratos en los filtros biológicos de sistemas acuapónicos".
Azucena Espinoza Moya coursed the bachelor in Medical Veterinary and Animal Husbandry winning the second place with her master's thesis with her project "Producción de tres especies de herbáceas utilizadas como filtros biológicos en sistemas acuapónicos para la producción intensive de tilapia".
Both theses developed in the Experimental Unit of Aquaculture from DICIVA and were led by Dr. Rosario Martínez Yañez, researcher professor from the Department of Veterinary, who commented: "Our work team fills with joy and pride from the achievement of the graduates" and thanked the institutional support since they began with this research line.
The Mexican Society for Sustainable Agriculture organized the contest where students defended their theses with topics in sustainable agriculture between August 20163 and 2015.
SOMAS' President, Dr. Juan Antonio Villanueva Jiménez handed an award to the winners within activities of the International Congress from SOMAS in collaboration with the "Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes", "Instituto Tecnológico de El Llano", "INIFAP" and "Colegio de Postgraduados Campus San Luis Potosí".
Such institutions invite professors and researchers from public and private universities, from research institutes, small and medium enterprises, non-governmental associations, producer associations and people related with topics in sustainable agriculture, sustainable development and sustainability in Mexico and abroad.
