Guanajuato, Gto., January 15, 2016.- The University of Guanajuato (UG) will hold the premiere of the movie "Eisenstein in Guanajuato", directed by the renowned British filmmaker Peter Greenaway, who will be present at the event to portray his film for both the university community and the society in Guanajuato.
This was announced in a press conference led by the General Rector from the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, the Director of Cultural Extension, Sara Julsrud and the Coordinator for the "Cine Club Universitario", Montserrat Alejandri.
Dr. Guerrero Agripino, highlighted the commitment the University of Guanajuato has with the cultural production and this time with the seventh art, hence he recognized the work done by the "Cine Club", a space that provides relevant activities such as the premiere of "Eisenstein in Guanajuato" in a university enclosure.
During her intervention, Dr. Sara Julsrud indicated that "the premier will occur next Thursday January 21st at 20:00hr in UG's "Teatro Principal" through the Direction of Cultural Extension and Cine Club in collaboration with "Piano Distribución".
Movie director Peter Greenaway will visit the university facilities along with the Finnish actor, Elmer Bäck who plays Sergéi Eisenstein and main character of the movie filmed in Guanajuato city. Equally we'll have the presence of the actor Luis Alberti, who played the role of Jorge Palomino and from the "Piano" seal, Andrea Castex will be here as well.
On her behalf, Montserrat Alejandri mentioned that the movie was filmed in Guanajuato city and received the support from several instances, among them, the University of Guanajuato. "Greenaway's feature film, is inspired in the journey taken by the soviet filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein to our country in 1931 to film his movie "¡Que Viva México!", explained.
In "Eisenstein in Guanajuato" –film produced by Mexico, Holland, Finland and Belgium—you will be able to watch scenarios like "Teatro Juárez", "Templo de la Compañia", "Museo de las Momias", "Santa Paula" graveyard, as well as representative streets and alleys from the city.
In this movie, Greenaway doesn't show a reliable reconstruction of Eisenstein's residency in Mexico, but pretends to show the recreation of a creator ecstasy in which the personal eros and the collective tanatos melt together.
It is important to mention that Peter Greenaway, --who is considered as one of the most important artistic genius in the world--, presented his film in the past 65 edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, and caused a stir for the catharsis the soviet director had on his sexuality, Peter portrays a Sergei that discovers himself as a person through his relationship with Palomino Cañedo.
After the premiere in Guanajuato, the movie will exhibit simultaneously in the cities of Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cuernavaca, Toluca and Mexico City, under the seal of "Piano".
An invitation is necessary to assist the premiere, this should requested personally at the Cine Club's office from the University of Guanajuato, located in the second floor from the Mesón de San Antonio, in office hours from 10:00 to 15:00. The invitations will be delivered free and there will be a maximum of two invitations per person.
