
Guanajuato, Gto., January 14, 2016.- With the purpose to commemorate the "Dia del compositor" (Composers Day) and highlight the sensible artistic work the creators make to take several emotions to listeners' ears, the outstanding composer and professor from the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Francisco Javier González Compeán, spoke about his career in music and remarked the work from different composers who are part of UG.
In the beginning, Dr. González Compeán, highlighted that the social function of a composer is implicit within the own act of creating, since this act for itself provides numerous social benefits. "I think that every creator --composer, plastic artists, writer, etc.—covers different primordial functions, like in some cases, contribute in the existence of a better harmony in society", the professor indicated.
Likewise, he asserted that when people go to a concert, they are part of some sort of ritual in which they create a pact with the beauty and sublime, in that way, their mind travels to places far from violence and conflicts that usually frame our environment.
Other important factors mentioned by Dr. Francisco Javier González, about the relevance the work from the composer have, is to generate a historical memory from the music heritage in a nation, "cultures, societies are remembered by their art", he expressed.
The composer indicated that his musical calling emerged in early ages, when he began formally studying piano, then he continued his career at the University of Guanajuato, institution that provided him with the opportunity to know and tightly collaborate – first as his student then as an assistant—with the renowned orchestra Mexican composer and director, Héctor Quintanar.
"M. Héctor Quintanar was one of the composers who have branded my life and was one of the main factors that led me to change my profession from piano player to composer", he said.
Equally, he remembered Ramón Montes de Oca, "he also was a very special composer in my development. I had the privilege to work with M. Montes de Oca, there was a great affection, I dare to affirm that the first premieres I had within the "Festival Internacional Cervantino" were possible thanks to his support and teachings".
Dr. Francisco Javier González Compeán, ensured that the University of Guanajuato has been an accomplice of many produce and talents in the music composition ambience, "I think the world, Mexico, the state of Guanajuato and the very own UG, can be very proud of the composers that have shared a link with the educative institution. I mention some; of course, Héctor Quintanar and Ramón Montes de Oca. Also Guillermo Pinto Reyes, Manuel del Villar, Carlos Vidaurri. Also Roberto Morales, great specialist in electroacoustic music and new technologies".
New generation composers are Juan Pablo Muñoz, Edgar Barroso, Emmanuel Ontiveros, Paul Morales, Adalberto Tovar, Ricardo Durán among others. I definitely skipped a more than a name, but his are just some examples of the creative talent that exists in the University of Guanajuato", he indicated.
To finish, Dr. González Compeán, made a recommendation to celebrate Composer's Day: "besides the composers mentioned above, I suggest you listen to works of the main universal composers from the 20th century, Béla Bartók".
It is important to mention that the name of Dr. Francisco Javier González Compeán features in the "Diccionario Encicloédico de Músicos en México" and in the memoire "Artistas Guanajatenses en el Festival Internacional Cervantino". His music has been executed in places such as Mexico City, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Munich, Minsk, Strasbourg, Madrid, Santiago de Compostela, Bergen and many others. It has been played by instrument players and directors such as Mary Kimura, Alla Von Buch, Masha Kotimsky, Paolinna Hasslascher, Rodolfo Ponce, Irvine Arditti, Gonzalo Salazar," Cello Alterno" ensemble, "Vertixe Sonora" ensemble, Marlos Nobre, Fernando Lozano, Mario Rodríguez Taboada, Symphonic Orchestra from the University of Guanajuato, Youth Orchestra from the State of Mexico, Chamber Orchestra from the University of Morelia, among others.
