
Irapuato, Gto., January 14, 2016.- Students, graduates and professors from the program in Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnia (MVZ) from the University of Guanajuato, provided medical horse care through the "charra" ride to "El Cubilete" in Silao, that traditionally occurs in January.
Thirty-three students, four graduates, and three professors from MVZ coming from the Division of Life Sciences from Campus Irapuato – Salamanca from UG, installed an attention module for two days with night shifts.
This social support favored the practice for students, the link with the environment and in the interaction with graduates, the Veterinary medicine program's coordinator, M. Claudia Celic Guzmán Ruíz commented.
Volunteers attended double the clinic cases in comparison with last year, mainly dehydration problems, lameness and injuries on the horses that were in the ride.
The service for society that the students did provided teamwork, academic integration, responsibility and medical commitment. At the same time, the participant divulged the educative program.
This is the second year the students go to Silao to provide medical care, going through an intense journey, that in the end leaves satisfaction from the service provided and the opportunity for field practice.
The ride to "Cristo Rey" is done since 1956 and in it more than 2,000 riders from different cities in the state of Guanajuato participate, they gather at the skirts of the hill, in the community "Aguas Buenas". Throughout the year they visit several times "El Cubilete", as well as "Día de Reyes" and Día de Cristo Rey".
Several corps such as Civil Protection, Red Cross and Police safeguard who participates in the ride, additionally, this time the riders had free service and medical care for their horses from college students, service they thanked to the youth and professors that oversaw the good performance of the future veterinarians.
