Irapuato, Gto., January 13, 2016.- With a cooling system made from garbage, professor at Campus Irapuato – Salamanca from the University of Guanajuato (UG), M. Santiago Gutierrez Vargas, obtained the third place in the "The Pitch" entrepreneur contest.
Such contest seeks a business acceleration process for beginner's businesses, also known as startups, organized by the "Instituto Nacional del Emprendedor (INADEM) and the "Instituto de Modelos de Aceleración de Negocios (IMAN) lead by José Luis Andrade.
Ten entrepreneurs from different commercial sectors showed their projects to business people that were the jury and gathered in the city of Celaya, Guanajuato, who awarded the third place to UG's professor with his project "Gas Verde" (green gas).
Santiago Gutierrez, explained that his project emerged to offer it to pig farmers, because in hot weather it is necessary to cool the livestock and in cold weather is necessary to generate heat in their spaces.
From there he used a technology that used the old refrigerators that used ammonia, and from coconut shells combined with alcohol, he created a device that works as a cooling system and the heat source that the device uses is the biogas obtained from garbage.
Although this project was originally intended for pig farmers, it has multiple applications for the hotel and restaurant sectors, even to acclimate houses in rural zones.
The professor from the Department of Renewable Energies, has six month working with his business model with this new device and received valuable feedback from the jury allowing him to expand his "Gas Verde" business.
It is important to mention that the entrepreneurs that participated in the contest "The Pitch" had only a couple of minutes to come up to stage and explain their projects, the jury was presided by INADEM's head at a federal level, Adriana Tortajada.
The first place of the contest was obtained by Paula Ramírez, founder of business that creates bags and shoes in the city of Leon, and the second place was for Adrián Caracheo from Celaya with a project of mobile hotels.
