Guanajuato, Gto., January 11, 2016.- "Mateo" is the name of the first novel from the writer and professor at the University of Guanajuato, Ricardo García Muñoz.
This literary work was recently published by "La Rana", an editorial from the State's Cultural Institute under the collection "Autores de Guanajuato" (Authors in Guanajuato). In an interview, Ricardo García indicated that after 25 years of being a dedicated story writer, he decided to create a novel that led him to face diverse challenges as a narrator.
"Mateo" is the main character of the plot, which comes from writing and internet blog. "Mateo is a teenager presented in the novel and the antihero –but not as a victim—he makes a connotation of the universe that surrounds him, in that sense, he sees things as a person from his age but with a wider lens", the author mentioned.
Also, García Muñoz explained that the novel –located in the city of Guanajuato—tells a story in which different sensations and contrasts reside such as loves and hates, aversions and phobias as well as all the frustrations and uneasiness a person has during his youth. "The voice from a teenager asks what am I and where am I going", these two universal questions create a narration in which "the concerns from the protagonist are what we all have had", affirmation made the writer Isaí Moreno in the book review.
The writer from Guanajuato, said that a motive that led him to write "Mateo" was the desire to tell a tale about being a human being, "outside all media infamy, from all the blood and all the violence that surrounds us".
He highlighted that the narrative strategies he used to write the novel were very close to the story, hence every chapter tells the anecdotes in a diverse form, every chapter is a different proposal, since the main character creates different voices.
To finish, he expressed that some of his main influences to dive in the narration world were Latin American writers such as Juan Rulfo, Julio Cortázar y Fernando del Paso.
It is important to mention that Ricardo García Muñoz (Leon, Guanajuato 1973) communication professional and writer's calling, runs the "4 Gatos" editorial and coordinates the story magazine "Ficcionalia". He is a professor in the Historical Research Masters from the University of Guanajuato and in the Doctorate in Arts program; currently he is the coordinator of radio and TV from the same educative institution.
