Guanajuato, Gto., January 22, 2016. Authorities from the University of Guanajuato (UG) received the record of re-accreditation for the educative program for the Nursing and Midwifery degree in Guanajuato, Campus Leon, granted by the "Consejo Mexicano para la Acreditación de Enfermería (COMACE), A.C.

At the ceremony, the General Rector of UG, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, expressed his recognition to the members of the university community who took part in this achievement, who are distinguished "by their academic quality and the highest social commitment".

He sustained that this re-accreditation is the result of the struggle, work, discipline and talent from the undergraduates, and an indicator that UG is on the right path, at the same time he reaffirmed the commitment of the institution with continuous improvement.

Rector from Campus Leon, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, spoke about the deficit of Nursing professionals in the country and said that the University of Guanajuato takes on the challenge of forming personnel and that they be better prepared each time.

In her intervention, COMACE's President, Dr. Cinthya Patricia Ibarra González, pointed out that the accreditation of an academic program guarantees to the society and health institutions that the students of this program receive a quality formation.

This achievement –she highlighted—is the result of a joint effort from different actors: professors, directors, students and administrative staff.

On his behalf, the Director of the Division of Health Sciences, Dr. Tonatiuh García Campos said that UG works to generate human resources with great social commitment, to give their best effort to contribute in improving people's quality of life.

Obtaining this re-accreditation from COMACE implied a thorough review of the study plan, the facilities, "a profound and objective observation of our doing, to identify strengths, but also weaknesses in the formation we provide in Nursing", explained the Director of the Department of Nursing in Guanajuato, Dr. Maria Teresa Hernández Ramos.

It is important to mention that the impact of this re-accreditation, besides the recognition of the program's quality, is obtaining resources and granting places for the professional social service and the acceptance of students in the clinical fields for the development of practices.

At the ceremony where the document was handed, there was also the presence of the State Coordinator of Nursing from the "Instituto de Salud Pública del Estado de Guanajuato", Lic. Maria Guadalupe Aguilar Morón; as well as members from the university community.
