Guanajuato, Gto., January 22, 2016.- With the purpose to commemorate the 400th death anniversary of the writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, the University of Guanajuato (UG) through their Direction of Cultural Extension will work together with the "Instituto Estatal de la Cultura" and the "Dirección Municipal de Cultura" from Guanajuato city to make an annual artistic programming that will have several cultural events referent to the maximum icon of the Spanish literature.
This was announced in a press conference held in "Capilla Barroca" from the Town's Museum". During the event, the Director of Cultural Extension from the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Sara Julsrud, indicated that for UG the collaboration with the mentioned parties is fundamental, because they will be able to take to the people of Guanajuato and public a series of events that will highlight the importance of the word and literature, but especially in the relevance that Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra has in Guanajuato.
One of the first commemorative activities, the "Feria del Libro" (Book Fair) of the University of Guanajuato –to be held from March 8th to 18th—will be dedicated to Cervantes. At the event, there will be editorial presentations, theater plays, expos, among other activities, relative to known novelist, poet and dramatist.
In the press conference, it was reminded that Guanajuato is the Cervantine capital of Mexico, since this city has been representing the "Entremeses Cervantinos" for more than 50 years in the "Teatro Universitario".
On his behalf, the director of the "Instituto Estatal de la Cultura", Dr. Juan Alcocer, highlighted that the programming that is planned in this collaborative instances, from March until November, will have a strong link with the celebration of the word in its different expressions: oral and written. In addition, he mentioned that it will have of the "Secretaría de Cultura" from the federal government, with the purpose to join efforts and bring society the best and most representative from the author of the famous novel "Don Quijote de la Mancha".
Equally, he commented that they will perform co-edition works between the Editorials "La Rana" and the "University of Guanajuato" towards the topic They also expect to give workshops, conferences, aloud readings, dramatized readings among other activities.
Lic. Alejandra Espinoza, Municipal Director of Culture, said the she expects that the events related to Cervantes, will also be presented in several rural communities and reaffirmed his gratefulness with the alliances of the three parties, to offer a cultural agenda with quality.
To finalize, the Town Clerk, Dr. Carlos Torres Ramírez, reminded that Guanajuato is a city with great cultural relevance and being the Cervantine capital of Mexico, its job is to honor the memory of such outstanding Spanish writer.
