Guanajuato, Gto., January 21, 2016.- The graduate from the Economy degree from the University of Guanajuato, Josué Ortega, currently studies a doctorate in the same discipline in one of the main institutions in the United Kingdom, Glasgow University in Scotland. The institution where he performs several researches on mathematical economy focused on Game theory, created by the mathematician John Nash.

In an interview, Josué Ortega explained that "this theory studies how different rational agents interact with each other. I mention agents because they can be people in an auction, robots picking download channels or even birds choosing their mate".

In this sense, one of the researches specifically resides in the study of behavior from people in online auctions, a subject of great social interest, since as the graduate indicated "Google uses this kind of auctions to obtain almost 95% of their profit".

Another topic in his interest "is the development of algorithms used to exchange nonnegotiable assets in the market using price, such as kidneys for sick patients or the spaces students can occupy in public schools. This algorithm design, is precisely used in public schools in New York and in the hospitals in the UK. I work with Dr. Hervé Moulin, who is considered one of the leaders in my area. I am also an associate member from the Institute of Mathematics in the UK", mentioned Ortega.

"One of the most significant contributions to my area is this algorithm design to assign assets that can't be priced, which makes their exchange difficult. For example, in general, children go to the school closest to their home, this condemns the children of low-income families to go to school without a good educational quality, disregarding their average. An algorithm that works to assign smart children to high level schools, would make the selection process fairer", he manifested.

Equally, he commented that such algorithms can be modified, among other things, to assign kidneys to sick patients in a way that maximizes the number of transplants and the organs –coming from altruistic donors—used in an optimal form. He highlighted that the kidney exchange system in Scotland has been designed by professor David Manlove from Glasgow University.

Josué Ortega highlighted that the University of Guanajuato was an important platform that lead him to make his postgraduate studies abroad, "during my degree I had excellent professors that gave a very clear idea on Game theory and explained me why it is important. Also, thanks to UG I could make an exchange with Bergen University in Norway, a great experience that opened my international panorama".

To finalize, the UG graduate said that in a future he wishes to transcend by generating a theorem that carries his name, as well as to collaborate with other scientists in different areas and work in research laboratories.

It is important to mention that Josué Ortega has presented his research in prestigious universities such as Oxford, Amsterdam, Warsaw and Jerusalem, to mention some. Before long he will travel to New Zealand and give a talk about his work.
