Guanajuato, Gto., January 21, 2016.- With the purpose to provide teaching, support and assessment to any person in the final moments of their life, the professor from the Department of Clinical Nursing from the Division of Health Science and Engineering from Campus Celaya-Salvatierra of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Maria Guadalupe Navarro Elías, leads the project "Laboratorio Cuidado al Final de la Vida", a space which people through the support of students and members of the academic body "Cuidado al final de la vida" manage to understand and cope with death.

Dr. Navarro Elías, who currently is responsible for the Academic Body named "Cuidado al final de la vida" (Care at the end of life), assured that this project –which is a subject taught to students in the seventh semester in the Nursing degree—is a tool for the students to provide an adequate care of people and learn to worthily face the end of their life.

This initiative emerges as an uneasiness from the Academic Body, who after having activities with elder people, they observed fear, anguish, denial, the impotence that the idea of dying caused, from the own elder and his/her family, as well as the solitude accompanied in this situation. The program has been working for four years and since then, approximately twenty people have been benefited and an average of one hundred students and six professors collaborate through the year.

The purpose of the project is for the person and next of kin to comprehend and assume death in a better way, therefore, they can reach other areas from the University of Guanajuato such as Psychology and Reflexology to complement and achieve a full follow up and attention.

With this space, the students, besides preparing as professionals to provide comprehensive care to the person and his/her family to this unavoidable reality, they manage to create a thought about their lives and learn to enjoy every moment and prepare for their own death.
