* UG is the fourth place in the nation in granted patents to universities

Guanajuato, Gto., February 3, 2016. Students from the University of Guanajuato (UG) who participated in the tenth edition of the "Concurso de Creatividad e Innovación" (Contest of Creativity and Innovation) received medals from the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), an organism that said that UG is one the educational institutions with more patents on a national level.

The University of Guanajuato bets on the human intellect, therefore, nationally, is the number four as for granted patents to universities, and number eleven in the entry of requests, held the head of the regional office of IMPI, Lic. Alejandro Raúl Salas Domínguez, during a ceremony in which they recognized the talent of the students of this House of Studies.

He added that the Higher Education institutions are a generating source of entrepreneurs, because now the graduates seek to become employment generators, hence, he highlighted the importance that UG organizes these events such as the "Contest of Creativity and Innovation".

Some of the winning projects were "Smart Energy", of the students David Alejandro Balcazar Torres, Raúl Uriel Barrera and Azucena Mascote Razo from Campus Irapuato-Salamanca; "Plataforma de Control de Avance Académico" of Jorge Arturo Miranda Hernández and Andrea Angeles Villagómez, from the same Campus.

Also recognized were "Metodo y Dispositivo utilizando carbon de hueso de res para la remoción de fluór en agua para consume humano", of Norma Alicia Domínguez Stevens, from Campus Guanajuato, and "Sistema automatizado de ventas al menudeo de bajo costo", of Emmanuel Razo Cabrera y Luis Daniel Vázquez Álvarez, from Campus Irapuato-Salamanca.

On the matter, UG's Academic Secretary, Dr. José Luis Lucio Martínez, in representation of the General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, highlighted the creativity and capability of innovation from the professors and students at UG, that joint efforts develop projects with social impact.

By nature, the youth is entrepreneurial, they represent a powerful force, with the potential to transform societies, but "for the innovation and creativity you require knowledge", as well as establishing clear objectives, sustained Dr. Lucio Martínez, who encouraged the students to define the path to follow.

In his intervention, Director of Link, Dr. Salvador Hernández Castro, explained that the medals awarded by IMPI are for the students that obtained the first places in the 2015 edition of the contest in the categories "Proyecto Tecnologías de la Información", "Proyecto Invención Licenciatura" and "Proyecto Invención Posgrado".

At the ceremony held at the Hall of Acts, were also present, UG's Pro Vost, Dr. Héctor Efráin Rodríguez de la Rosa; Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Javier Corona Fernández; Rector of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, Dr. Ernesto Alfredo Camarena Aguilar, as well as advisors and family of the awarded students.
