
Guanajuato, Gto., February 3, 2016.- With the purpose to extend the collaboration links between the University of Guanajuato and Penn State University and promote the student and professor's mobility, this Wednesday was a reunion led by the Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Javier Corona Fernández and Dr. Tina Richardson, Chancellor of Penn State.
It is worth to mention that both universities have many years of collaboration, an in the last three months it has intensified thanks that Campus Guanajuato, specifically the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies, Department of Language, opened English courses for kids.
It was in collaboration with Dr. Nancy Coco, who was also present at the reunion, and M. Luz María Muñoz, that focused in the Workshops for the Development of English Professors for kids in the 2014 and 2015 summers, and student of the Master in Educative Research degree, participated in an instance in Penn State in November 2015.
Penn State university authorities, manifested that they are interested in extending the collaboration with the University of Guanajuato in the areas of Arts and Management, as well as continue strengthening the collaboration with the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies, all of them from Campus Guanajuato.
In a later interview, the Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, explained that Penn State University has a formation program for professors to cover this demand of courses for children and that have been received in past summers, professors that have come to give update courses and training to professors; but this time, the visitors manifested their interest to widen the collaboration links.
It was a very friendly visit, he said, in which he structured a work plan in which there is a proposal of making joint sessions by distance because there is a reciprocal interest, among other factors, because the region of their Campus (Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania) a population of the 25% of the total habitants speak Spanish and the teaching and learning of Spanish is relevant for them, as for us is to learn English.
Besides the interest to establish a tighter link with the Division of Architecture, Art & Design –for its Arts offering—and Economic-Administrative Sciences, especially International Trade and Management, agreed that for their next visit they would also visit archeological zones in the state so it becomes an element of interest more to come and strengthen the student-academic mobility.
In the meeting, from Penn State University participated: Dr. Tina Richardson, Chancellor; Dr. Ken Thigpen, Director of Academic Affairs and Ms. Nancy Coco, Director of Corporate and Community Education, while from the University of Guanajuato were present, Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, Rector of Campus Guanajuato; Dr. Aureliano Ortega, Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies; Dr. Carlos Armando Preciado de Alba, Academic Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences; M. Luz María Muñoz de Cote, of the Department of Language and M. Velino Esteves jiménez, Academic Secretary of the Division of Economic-Administrative Sciences.
