Guanajuato, Gto., February 6, 2015.- The University of Guanajuato commemorates 133 years of the birth of the Nursing program, which began with an obstetrics course for women and tuned into a degree in the 70's. Currently, the quality of this educational program is recognized nationally and every year, approximately 100 professionals dedicated to safeguarding people's health graduate from Campus Guanajuato.
The Director of the Nursing and Midwifery degree in Guanajuato, M. Ma. Teresa Hernández Ramos, told that this degree emerged by the uneasiness of the guild that tried to prove the importance of the work they do, it was fought to be stop considered as an occupation and managed to claim the value of Nursing as a professional exercise.
For M. Teresa Hernández, Nursing is a profession where a lot of elements intervene, "in the health field, many people work in their disciplines, but each one contributes a specific disciplinary aspect, our thing is to take care of the person", she affirmed.
She said that everybody can offer care, but empirically, "seems simple, but goes with a knowledge of many disciplines to understand people we can tend to, identify the problem and make the possible to solve it to maintain a healthy lifestyle".
Fundamental part of a Nurse's labor is prevention, not only help with a patient's health, but contribute to look after their economy, "30-years ago, if we would've battled diabetes back then, this problem wouldn't so serious", now we must face the consequences of this illness that represents a considerable expense, explained the scholar.
To promote prevention, the University of Guanajuato has programs focused on vulnerable groups. An example of them are those that happen in the communities, where the Nursing students support women so they can know the importance of child nourishment or provide a service in schools to detect on time sight, obesity and malnutrition problems.
"At the time the Faculty of Nursing in Noria Alta has been, they have supported all the communities in the urban and suburban zones in the city", assured M. Teresa Hernández.
The Director of the Nursing and Midwifery degree –in Guanajuato—recognizes that to dedicate to a profession like this, you require a lot if dedication and sacrifice, but at the same time is very gratifying.
"Nursing is providing care and you can individualize it for each person, even when you have a focus group with the same pathology, each one is different and we have to see to their care, and the possibility to influence from person to person, which is highly satisfactory", she finalized.
