Guanajuato, Gto., February 10, 2016.- Thanks to several proposals for the benefit of society and the improvement of the life conditions of people, the student from the Sociology degree from the University of Guanajuato (UG), Marcela Sánchez, won the first place in the contest "Ideas por Guanajuato" (Ideas for Guanajuato) in the category "Carta al Alcalde" (Letter for the mayor).

Such contest is composed of three categories: story, letter to the mayor and short film. Specifically the "Carta al Alcalde" has the objective to express a personal opinion on the main problems that the community faces and propose ideas to improve them.

For such reason, the contest is directed to any student in high school or degree in the state of Guanajuato. In an interview, the winning student from the University of Guanajuato, commented that "to write the letter I focused in the problems of the neighborhood where I live, which is found in a polygon of poverty and in the peripheries of the city of Leon".

"My neighborhood has gang problems, teen pregnancy and as a consequence a large school dropout, that is why in my text I exposed the main problems that relate to my community and also possible solutions", mentioned Marcela Sánchez.

In her letter, the student proposed to make a social diagnosis based on the basic needs of the population in her neighborhood, since there are many shortcomings. Carrying out such diagnosis, they can know the characteristics of the people who live there to know in depth what are their needs.

"Among my ideas we want to create places in the neighborhood for the elder to use because many times there are no places for them to spread and do some motor and psychomotor exercise. And regarding the school dropouts, I proposed to establish dialogue spaces between the youth like informational fairs in which they can learn about what options they have to continue studying, because many times, the information does not reach", she expressed.

To finalize, Marcela Sánchez spoke about the satisfaction she got for winning the first place in "Ideas por Guanajuato": "the satisfaction is large because studying the Sociology degree in UG has given me several tools that have helped me in my development, for example, this contest, in which I was able to write ideas to improve our communities and society, proposing real and feasible actions".

It is important to mention that "Ideas por Guanajuato" is a contest organized by the Senate of the Republic, through the senator Ma. del Pilar Ortega Martínez, who handed a recognition and an economic stimulus to the winner of the first place.
