Guanajuato, Gto., February 15, 2016. With the purpose to reposition "La Alberca" (The Pool) as a tour reference in the state, a group of students from the University of Guanajuato (UG) will make an illumination show accompanied by music and a performance that will recreate the legend of the most emblematic crater of Valle de Santiago.
The project is coordinated by Noé González Morales, a student from the Interior Design degree from UG's Campus Guanajuato, who planned this proposal as a thesis. The idea to illuminate a volcano "is something that has not been done in all Latin America", he explains.
Some years ago, "La Alberca" was a very visited place, you could even practice aquatic sports such as sailing, power boating and diving, but since it dried it stopped attracting visitors. Nevertheless, the legends persist feeding the mysticism that covers all the zone known as "Las siete luminarias" (The seven lights), which this crater is part of.
One of the most popular stories is the love story between Alberta (the crater "La Alberca") and Julian ("Cerro de Culiacán"), topic chose by UG students as the axis of their show which they called "El resplandor de Alberta" ("Alberta's shinning") and will be set this Saturday February 27th at 7:30 pm.
The spectators will appreciate an illumination game at the inside of the crater, accompanied with lasers that can be seen from any point at Valle de Santiago. In addition, they will premiere "Las 7 musas", a musicalized performance by Ensemble 1900 (piano and guitar), staged by students of the Division of Architecture, Art and Design (DAAD), who will present a 3D mural.
Noé González told that the project emerged when knowing the illumination scheme in the archeological zone of Uxmal in Yucatán, in charge of the architect Elías Cisneros, considered one of the best illuminators in the world. "My attention was caught by the proposal that the tourism of a natural area that was only during the day, to be extended".
The lighting design helps make something attractive again, without having to intervene nor damage the environment, added the student, who dwelled into the topic, organized congresses and with the support from his professors, Eng. Antonio Ortíz Mares and M. Eugenia Tenorio Núñez, established contact with Phillips company, who decided to support him with technical equipment.
The proposal also obtained support from the government of Valle de Santiago, and from the University of Guanajuato and of course, from the classmates from the Division of Architecture, Art & Design. "Is the sum of everybody", that is why this idea could materialize, acknowledges the project's coordinator.
In the name of the involved students, Noé sustained that Mexico has lots of opportunities, but you have to go out and find them and work to fulfill them.
UG students do not obtain any economic benefits for their work, they are motivated by the idea for this show to be done permanently, "we participate for a sense of social responsibility, it is our contribution, we are leaving, but we can leave this to society", he assured.
