convocatoria-veranos-2016-universidad-guanajuato-ug

Guanajuato, Gto., February 18, 2016. The University of Guanajuato (UG), through the Direction of Support for Research and Postgraduate (DAIP), makes an invitation to participate in the Summers of Scientific Research, that this year has a new modality: "Ideas Ingeniosas" (Ingenious Ideas), in which a group of students will work on a project to solve a social, scientific or technological problem.

UG Summers have the purpose of promoting and awakening the interest in scientific research among undergraduates and high school students who –advised by a researcher—create a project in five weeks and at the end they show their results in an institutional congress.

The deadline for professors to subscribe their projects in www.veranos.ugto.mx is February 26th, while the deadline for the students will end on March 17th.

The accepted students in the program will do an internship from June 13th to July 15th, in which they will work from the hand of high level researchers and will receive an economic support.

Later, they must send an article with the research results to the page of the magazine "Jóvenes en la Ciencia" (Youth in Science), where it will be published.

Currently the program has five modalities: Scientific Research Summer for students subscribed in UG's degree programs and the state of Tabasco; Scientific Research Summer for Excellence Students of Mexico or foreign; Scientific Research Summer for UG's High school students; Scientific Research Summer in Companies and Governmental Dependencies and Scientific Research Summer "Ideas Ingeniosas" (Ingenious Ideas).

For 22 years, this program grew strong; seven years ago emerged the collaboration with companies and governmental dependencies, modality in which these they make proposals in accordance with their needs. The year 2015 was the first time they allowed the participation of high school students and this year they launched the invite for author of "ideas Ingeniosas" to work in teams advised by a researcher-professor or UG.

In this last modality teams of 3 to 4 students can participate. They need to have identified a social, scientific or technological problem and propose a project to solve it; with the commitment to make a significant scientific progress at the end of the internship (five weeks).

The evaluating committee will select the 10 best projects to which an economic aid of 30,000 pesos will be granted, 50% will be used to buy the required supplies and materials and the 50% left will be for the maintenance of the members of the team.
