Guanajuato, Gto., February 25, 2016.- Through the Department of Mathematics of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences of Campus Guanajuato, the University reinforces the link with society through the program of the Advisory in Math for youth in high school, and now, also for fifth or sixth graders and middle schoolers.

Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, Rector of Campus Guanajuato and Dr. Antonio Murillo Salas, Director of the Department of Mathematics, informed that such program is basically developed with students from the Mathematics degree and the Computing degree as well, who are making their social service. Until now, it was just for students in high school, but they have extended it for elementary level.

Rector of Campus Guanajuato highlighted that the relation among higher, high and basic education, has been the subject of many studies that talk about the state of the education in Mexico, that have to do with, for a part, with the formation and the habit of reading –that has been consolidated—and in the other hand, to encourage the study of exact sciences.

"Campus Guanajuato has participated very enthusiastically with a sound program of divulgation and reading encouragement", sustained Dr. Corona. But in the other hand, they also recognize that education requires constant attention in teaching sciences, particularly in elementary school.

Therefore, the role of the University of Guanajuato, with the academic capability our researchers have, is to also contribute so our basic education in Mexico reaches a greater quality level and involve children in the process in this passionate subject as is scientific research, in this case, mathematical science.

Besides, involving undergraduate students fulfilling their social service in a work so important as teaching, not only children and youth who receive the advice, but also the very own college students, such as mathematicians and future academics, benefit from teaching learning, virtuous circle provided by who dedicate to teaching.

On his behalf, Dr. Antonio Murillo Salas, Director of the Department of Mathematics, reminded that the Advisory Center in Science emerged in 2010 as an initiative of the own students to offer a service for the community and they were Salvador Meneses, Guillermo Dibene and Lizda Moncada who began this project, same that he has been coordinating for three or four years now.

He explained that is not that the advisors make them repeat the ordinary course that happens in the classroom, but to solve specific doubts the students may have because the advisory is personal; for which the applicants must assist the facilities of the Department of Mathematics in Valenciana, Saturdays from 09:30 to 14:00 where they receive 1 ½ hour sessions.

To anyone who may require more information, you must go to the page of the Department of Mathematics: www.demat.ugto.mx where they will find a form to request advice in specific topics and through the same mean, they are assigned an advisor who is a student from the University of Guanajuato.
