Salvatierra, Gto., February 25, 2016.- With the objective to stimulate the interest in children on the scientific and technological areas, the program "Academia de niños en la ciencia" (Academy of children in science) was carried out by the Council of Science and Technology of the state of Guanajuato (CONCYTEG) in a liaison with Campus Celaya-Salvatierra of the University of Guanajuato.

These activities are done annually, and it allows the children to interact with science, to know and strengthen the comprehension of this area and in this way, awaken an interest to develop in this line professionally.

This time they received more than 40 children coming from six schools from the cities of Cortázar, Villagrán and Salvatierra, who during the workshops elaborated compost pots, participated in the workshop of organic agriculture, food workshop, as well as the separation or primary colors.

During the closing ceremony, Dr. Alejandro Veloz, in the name of the university community thanked for the visit and participation of each one of the children invited, as well as the professors who accompanied them. He said that he trusts that these types of activities can make the children of the future to be members of the community of the University of Guanajuato.

Dr. Gabriela Arroyo, Dr. Katia Hidalgo, Dr. Rafael Veloz, Dr. Tarsicio Medina and Dr. Jorge Dzul, all full-time professors of the Division of Health Sciences and Engineering, as well as 20 students from the Department of Agro industrial Engineering made and gave support during the dynamics of this program.

"The importance of the children knowing what is done in the university, is the path so they can have an idea of what kind of degree they would like to study and that they see that things do not to be necessarily complicated", explained Dr. Jorge Dzul, instructor of the food workshop.

He added that these workshops have the feature of "do not limit them" to observe, on the contrary, touch what is being made, let them experiment. He assured that with these activities they take a little bit of knowledge of what is done at the University and what in a future they could make here. "Is a great satisfaction to see the children learn, is an activity that in the personal, fills me", he concluded.

For David Solís, student of Agro Industrial Engineering, who courses the sixth semester and supported the workshop on organic agriculture explained, "find a fun way to share our knowledge so they can understand without a problem is a challenge, however, when you achieve that, their questions, their expressions, knowing their point of view of our job, is very gratifying and edifying, because we learn from them".

Ana Gabriela Lizama is a student of Agro Industrial Engineering and this is his second year participating in this activity as a volunteer and explains "the children love to visit us, they seem happy to learn and us to share our experience with them".
