León, Gto., February 24, 2016.- Within the activities of the metropolitan seminar "Cambio y Dinámicas Sociales" (Change and Social Dynamics), the Division of Social Sciences and Human Studies from the University of Guanajuato, Campus Leon, invited Dr. Ángela Giglia from the "Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana" to give a conference "El crecimiento metropolitano, nuevos modelos, viejos problemas" (Metropolitan growth, new models, old problems), in which she addresses the diverse ambiences of the urban development from an interdisciplinary perspective.
The main topic of the expo was the country's growth and other cities in Latin America, and highlighted the case of the city of Leon, in which its growth has not only impacted the inside of the metropolis, but has influenced other cities such as Silao, Romita, San Francisco del Rincón and Purísima; from there the denomination of the metropolis and metropolization.
As the conference presenter was the Dr. Jessica Vega, professor-researcher of the Department of Social Studies from Campus Leon, who from 2014, in collaboration with the "Colegio de México, A.C.", began research works towards social dynamics and urban development, giving as a result, a comprehensive interdisciplinary project denominated biennial "Territorios en Moviemiento" (Territories in Movement) that will occur next August in its third edition.
On her behalf, Dr. Giglia remarked the existence of six kinds of spaces in urban development, contested, collectivized, homogenous, negotiated, ancestral and insular, likewise she pointed that in the last 20 years the cities have grown in two particular forms: 1) Horizontal urban groups (one-family small dimension housing) and 2) Mixed, central and vertical use groups (compact and concentrated cities). "In 20 years all the population will be living in cities", she asserted.
The students and professors were interested about the ideas and opinions presented and could reaffirm research projects for the work tables and free work within the third biennial territories in movement.
