Salamanca, Gto. February 23, 2016.- With her "Pecera mágica" (magical fish tank), Dr. Cristina Margarita Gómez Sarabia, professor-researcher of the Division of Engineering of the University of Guanajuato, participated in the expo "En clave de luz" (Light key) in the "Universidad de Valencia", Spain.
To celebrate the International year of light and technologies based on light, the vicerectorship of culture and equality of the "Universidad de Valencia" organized the expo in cooperation with several universities. The expo had the participation of professors of the Department of Physics and of the Laboratory of Light in that country and included experiments, historical contents, holograms, installations and audiovisuals.
In her work, the professor employs the optical phenomena called polarization, defined as the instant displacement of the particles that oscillate. Within a glass cabinet you can watch fish and algae moving softly in the water, at the time that they reflect different colors.
The "Magic fish tank" has the double function to generate awareness to not use beings from the vegetable reign or the animal reign as organic elements in ornaments.
Professor Gómez Sarabia is a doctor in Physics with a specialty in Optics and she is ascribed to the Department of Art and Business of the Division of Engineering of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca (DICIS) where she also teaches a workshop of applied optics to art. In it, she develops several projects with students from different educational programs, such as Arts and Mechatronic.
Recently, the works from the professors and her students integrated the expo "Una artista llamada luz" (An artist called light) that was installed in the "Casa de la Cultura" of Salamanca and thank for the good response of the public, next March. The expo will be taken to a cultural enclosure in the city of Irapuato, Gto.
In the city's museum, people can visit her proposals of science and art, that show the phenomena of optics as caustic for reflection and polarization of light, in projects like "pintura a la luz", "anti-taxidermia", "vista al universo" among others.
