Irapuato, Gto., March 1, 2016.- Two basic science research projects in the area of biotechnology and agricultural sciences, will be developed in the Division of Life Sciences (DICIVA) from the University of Guanajuato, with support from the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT).
After participating in the Basic Scientific Research summon, the projects of the professors from the Food Department, Dr. José Eleazar Barboza Corona and Dr. Gustavo Hernández Guzmán, were approved by the "Comité Técnico y de Administración del Fondo Sectorial de Investigación para la educación" of CONACYT.
The project "Análisis molecular de un aparato digestivo de Crysoperla" (Molecular analysis of a digestive apparatus of Crysoperia" of Dr. Gustavo Hernández Guzmán, is about the molecular analysis of the secreting glands of an insect, to try to know the protein profile of the secretion and then analyze the transcriptome by massive sequencing, sequence analysis and notes of the same.
On his behalf. Dr. José Eleazar Barboza Corona will work in the project "Análisis de la regulación genética de la endoquitinasa ChiA74 de Bacillus thuringiensis y de sus dominios estructurales" (Analysis of the genetic regulation of the endochitinase ChiA74 of Bacilus thuringiensis and its structural domains".
Bacillus thuringiensis is widely known due that it synthetizes insecticide proteins called Cry. This bacteria also produces enzymes called chitinases which break the chitin and can be used as agents to potentiate the effect of insecticide proteins. However, little is known of how it controls the synthesis in the bacteria and until now, the tridimensional structure of such protein has not been elucidated.
The project will be done in 3 years and in it particpated several experts from complementary areas, students from the Postgraduate in Bioscience (Doctorate and Master) and undergraduate students from the Division of Life Sciences from Campus Irapuato-Salamanca from the University of Guanajuato.
The support for the mentioned projects is MXN$1.5 MPD each.
