Guanajuato, Gto., March 5, 2016.- During the inauguration of the "XXI Encuentro Nacional de Solidaridad" with Cuba, Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, Rector of Campus Guanajuato, made clear the pleasure and honor that the Maximum House of Studies of the state is the host of this event.

The University of Guanajuato (UG) has always defined as a space for free discussion of ideas, and in these enclosures, they have had the visit of ambassadors from different countries and has also been a space for debate in moments of decision in political competitions, hence, this event in framed in a tradition of dialogue in our institution, mentioned Dr. Corona, who led the attendants, a welcome in the name of Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, UG's General Rector.

The relationship Mexico-Cuba is historical, he observed, "we are neighbors at sea; we share water borders. We are accomplices of important episodes in our history, and we identify in many cultural features", so, even when there have been difficult diplomatic episodes in the past, the friendship has not diminished.

In this common history, the Rector of Campus Guanajuato cited the years in which Jose Martí, Cuban thinker, journalist, philosopher and poet came to Mexico as a young man in this century, referring to the episode of 1956 when from the Tuxpan port a group of revolutionaries commanded by Fidel Castro and Ernesto Guevara, sailed off in the Granma yacht towards the island.

This fact and its commemoration, indicated, is what calls the homage to the memory of that historical event, at the 60th anniversary of the landing of the Granma yacht. Lastly, Dr. Corona Fernández was convinced that the academic exchange that exists for decades with Cuba, will definitely continue growing, since friendship and liaison between the countries, is beyond any doubt.

In the ceremony were present, his Excellency Mr. Dagoberto Rodríguez Barrera, Extraordinary Ambassador and Plenipotentiary of Cuba; Elio Gámez Neyra, First Vice President of the Cuban Institute of friendship with cities and Dr. Magdalena Rosales Cruz, representative of the movement of Solidarity with Cuba in Guanajuato; as well as Jesus Escamilla, representative of the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba.

Before the conclusion, a public recognition was given to Mr. Antonio del Conde, "El Cuate", who man the Granma, vessel that took Fidel Castro's expeditionary from Tuxpan to Cuban shores in 1956 to begin the Cuban Revolution.
