
Guanajuato, Gto., March 11, 2016.- Nicolás Cabral is a graduate from the Architecture degree from the University of Guanajuato, however, taking formal studies on this discipline, led him to discover another calling; to professionally dedicate to writing and editing.
Besides being an outstanding narrator and essayist, Nicolás Cabral is editorial founder and director of the magazine of Arts and esthetic thought "La Tempestad" (The Tempest), a publication that through the years has become a reference to consult to all who possess and interest or are studying art in its different expressions: theater, dance, music, literature, architecture, among others.
The graduate of the University of Guanajuato, was born in Córdoba, Argentina, from a very early age he moved with his parents to Mexico, arrived to the city of Celaya, and he lived his childhood there. Later, he changed his residence to Guanajuato to begin his college studies.
In an interview, Nicolás Cabral mentioned that "I took the Architecture degree because there were two aspects that I was interested on: a technical part and a part of human studies. I ended up decanting for the human studies part. I had distinct interests; besides architecture, literature and music motivated me."
The Spanish editorial "Periférica" published in 2014, with excellent acceptance of the critic, his first novel, "Catálogo de formas" (Form catalogue), to which this year will follow the story collection, "Las moradas" (The purples).
Cabral remarked that the architecture is present in his work as writer, it is so, that in "Catálogo de formas", he inspired in the figure of the renowned Mexican architect and painter Juan O'Gorman, who lived part of his childhood in Guanajuato because his father was a Mine engineer.
"I used O'Gorman's figure to speak about Mexican modernity and also to construct a character in different angles. This novel is not linear; it means, it is written in fragment where there are jumps in space and time. This puzzle is constructed by the reader. I always try to find a way to write a novel, a story or an essay, without being attached to the canon or the traditional rules of genres," indicated Nicolás.
Regarding his function as Editorial Director of the magazine "La Tempestad,"he highlighted that he founded the publication in 1998 with his friend José Antonio Chaurand; they met in their adolescence, then they lived in distinct cities, Monterrey and Guanajuato; therefore, he magazine was made from those two places. For that reason, that a part to the origin of "La Tempestad,"is in Guanajuato.
At the same time, the explained that one of the main reasons that took him to make the magazine, was the make a publication that broke through tradition and was independent and ruled by its own means.
"La Tempestad" is one of the art magazines with more positions in our country, with a little over 17 years of history, currently they have monthly periodicity, hence, each month the readers can find a publication of quality led by a critic profile.
To finish, Nicolás Cabral commented that in his point of view as an editor and writer, the social function of arts, links to these that allow to perceive reality in another form, "that even is the political function of art, because it opens a different space of everyday to see the reality. The art is also a way to think; one of the zones since men relates to the world."
